RE: Nervous newbie question

Everyone has some degree of anxiety and white knuckles on any adventure..."I hate crossing that narrow bridge, will I hang my tire on the driveway culvert this time?, I've never gone down a 12% hill", etc. Each completion of those hazards should be remembered as success. Don't watch the rearview mirror too close and feel you're holding up traffic...the goal is to get to the bottom or to point B. I hate going downhill, but so far so good and I completed my first and worst years ago.

Most municipals have em around their water plants, warehouses or shops for the asking.

RE: great campground bad campsite

This KOA blew all others away. Sounds like you are in the shaded portion. Their landscape idea, in that area, seems to use the trees as natural buffers between sites and roads...not an open parking lot like the sites nearer to the office. Ask to move...they accommodated us when we expressed any annoyances.

RE: disconnect dual cam when backing?

I don't remove em either except for backing into a tight turn. The bars could bind and shear/bend the threaded portion in such a turn. I can have the TT about 60 deg. from straight when contact starts.

RE: Prices in Austin..You must understand that Austin is really not part of reality.
It is South of the River and acquired before building Mopac.

RE: 2001 Chevy 2500 w/ Duramax

77K and so far so good. This is my first diesel. I thought it would be a maintenance hog, but really nothing. I did notice smoke this trip when I hammered it, so maybe the injectors or something needs attention.
I have to advertise this because I am impressed...
I reprogrammed the computer, added about 60HP and fuel use went from 20-21mpg at 65 to over 26 at the same speed.....at 55 it's 28-29 and at 70, which I hardly ever maintained, it's above 20mpg. It was 15-16mpg and that's why I seldom went 70. Above 65 it seemed to need a lot of fuel....not a linear curve. I guess the added power really makes me use less foot. As for towing, 9 was about it at any hwy. speed, but 12-13 seems to be the norm now. I know there can be turbo and other issues when you pump these engines up, so I don't do any WOT pulls or abuse.

RE: Camping as opposed to motel.

We just returned from a 1300 mile lap around Ark. We didn't use the TT, the first time in many years, but our logic was...we would be moving down the road everyday and seeing different places. It wasn't as fun, but I used 65G of diesel instead of 135. Yes, the cost of fuel was a consideration, but we knew we wanted to travel different roads everyday, instead of day hops, and some were dirt. We spent some of the nights in cabins in State Parks, so we did somewhat get the camping itch scratched. I've tried to stay with the policy of camping in the same place for 3 days minimum and not moving every day anymore.

RE: Question for ham radio ops at campgrounds.

No objections yet. I use an Outpost and its tripode...maybe a dipole if there are end supports and the conditions look agreable. Most people ask what is it if they see it.

RE: UltraFab 3500 tongue jack question

it's hard to believe, but the 3 bolt points on the tongue plate are threaded, so no nuts are necessary (on a Jayco). The bolt length only needs to be long enough to go thru the star washers, Ultrafab plate and tongue plate...3/8-1/2 long. After much abuse getting the bolts out on my last jack, I went to stainless this time. I am scared to tighten too much for fear the threads will strip, but never have. There can't be more than a turn and 1/2 of threads in the plate. You should be able to do everything from the top...no knee bending necessary.

RE: good place for a 34' TT near Wimberley TX

Within Wimberly, I can't think of any. Sleepy Hollow RV is listed and I know the exact location, but I cannot picture it. Must be across the road from the flea market area. There is a campground not too far from town on FM2325, between Wimberly and FM165, but I don't know the name. We have stayed at Maricopa RV (Resort?) near Canyon Lake several times. Loop D has shade but I don't know about getting a 34' in there. There are several other grounds on FM 306 near Canyon Lake dam.

RE: Shocks....Bilstein or Koni

I don't know about the Koni, but I replaced the stock shocks with Bilstein and wasn't impressed...even dissapointed. Harsher ride than the stock and they gotta be worn some with 75K on the truck. My truck is listed below.

Treetops RV is about 20 miles due south of DFW. They can handle large motor homes. I do not know about storage, cover, etc.
